195Transcript Late-term abortion & chemical abortion intro 0:00 They're ambivalent all during their first and sometimes even second trimester about whether they want to continue the pregnancy. Meanwhile, the 0:06 clock keeps ticking while their mind keeps ruminating and the baby keeps growing. So end up you end up with these 0:11 late term abortions no matter how available the chemical abortion drugs are. No. 0:19 [Music] 0:30 Well, hello friends. Pro-life leader Frank Pavone here and welcome to our program. Tonight, I want to talk to you 0:36 about the chemical abortion technique. People call it the abortion pill. will 0:43 explain why that's not exactly the best terminology. But we're going to go into just some simple talking points to equip 0:50 you to have uh a conversation about this with anybody at all that you are 0:56 speaking to and also to help you uh to understand it as a pro-life committed uh Opening prayer & reflection 1:02 activist and believer. So let's start with prayer. I want to start with my book pro-life reflections for every day. 1:09 Thank you to the Catholic Book Publishing Company for publishing this and recently sending me some additional 1:14 copies. Let's go to one of these devotionals. Exodus 3:7 says, "I have 1:19 seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of 1:25 their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering." Reflection. Some 1:32 abortion supporters say, "Let's just agree to disagree." We have the greatest 1:37 respect for those who disagree with us. But when victims are oppressed, we don't 1:42 just agree to disagree with the oppressor. Rather, we intervene to stop 1:48 the oppressor and save the victim. Let us pray. Lord, you hear the cry of the 1:55 oppressed. May we also hear it and respond. Amen. So, if you want a 2:01 devotional like that for every day of the year, prolifeereflectionsfor everyday.com is where you can go. 2:09 Okay, let's go over right away to the whiteboard here and we're going to talk about 2:16 chemical abortion of technique of killing babies in the Surgical vs. chemical abortion 2:23 womb distinct from surgical abortion which of course involves things like 2:30 forceps going into uh the womb, tearing apart the baby limb 2:36 from limb or a suction tube tube going in there and suctioning the baby into a collection jar. Uh or later in in in 2:44 abortion, injecting the heart with poison to stop it and then inducing an early delivery. Those are some of the 2:51 methods of surgical abortion. But here we're talking about methods of abortion 2:57 that use drugs. Notice it's plural. 3:03 Some people talk about the abortion pill, but they're pills plural and the 3:10 experience is much more difficult than taking a pill. We'll get that out in a moment. Chemical abortion is what we are 3:16 talking about. Now, the first thing I want to point out, all I'm going to do here is give you some basic concepts. 3:21 Obviously, all of this can be explored in a whole lot more depth and a whole lot more detail. You'll find all kinds 3:27 of information on our website and on the websites of other pro-life organizations. But let me just bring you Why abortion statistics are unreliable 3:32 a few talking points, a few key facts, and dispel a few myths. First of all, 3:38 the statistics. And the main thing I want you to know about the statistics. When you ask the 3:44 question, well, how many of the abortions nowadays are chemical abortions? Are most of them chemical abortions? Is it 51%? Is it 60%? Is it 3:52 80%. The statistics, brothers and sisters, are unreliable. That's the key thing we 3:59 have to keep in mind. Now, abortion statistics, some of them come from the CDC, some of them come from Goopmacher. 4:05 CDC, Centers for Disease Control, agency of the federal government. Goopmacher Institute is a research agency used to 4:12 be connected with Planned Parenthood. Now, they claim to be more independent. But the fact of the matter is their 4:17 numbers are always higher because they go look for the numbers from the abortion facilities. 4:24 marker. I mean, uh, CDC relies passively on states to report the data and not all 4:29 the states do, including the biggest abortion state, California. So, CDC numbers are always going to be lower. 4:35 Goop markers are a little bit higher, but none of them are capturing all the abortions. And that's especially true 4:41 now because after DOBS, things got all unstable as far as some states right 4:48 away restricting abortion. In other states, passed amendments to have abortion even more accessible. People 4:56 traveling state lines has increased. And chemical abortions, when they're selling 5:02 drugs, you can keep track of the numbers 5:10 of drugs sold. Okay? But remember, people are taking 5:17 them at home, which also means they might not be taking them at home. The 5:23 fact that they were sold does not mean that they were used. So, how many actual 5:31 abortions that occur are occurring by these chemical methods? Bottom line is we're not sure. And none of the 5:37 statistics right now are giving us a totally reliable understanding of it. 5:43 Don't get too carried away with statistics. 5:49 The other thing to keep in mind that as long as abortion is continuing, all 5:55 right, as long as abortion uh is is legal in various places, there Why late-term abortions still happen 6:00 will always be surgical 6:05 abortion facilities and there will always be late term. That is until we 6:11 end it. As long as abortion is continuing, you can't imagine that chemical abortion will totally subsume, 6:18 eradicate, and make disappear every surgical abortion facility or late term 6:23 abortion. Why is that the case? Because the reasons people get abortions later in pregnancy often don't arise until 6:30 later in pregnancy. In other words, people very often will go through the first uh trimester of their pregnancy 6:36 wanting the baby very much. Maybe a medical diagnosis comes later in pregnancy. Maybe a relationship breaks 6:42 up later in pregnancy. Maybe f their finances go south later in pregnancy. Maybe they're denying their pregnancy. 6:49 Maybe they're ambivalent all during their first and sometimes even second trimester about whether they want to 6:54 continue the pregnancy. Meanwhile, the clock keeps ticking while their mind keeps ruminating and the baby keeps How the drugs work (Mifepristone & Misoprostol) 7:00 growing. So end up you end up with these late term abortions no matter how available the chemical abortion drugs 7:06 are. So that's another key thought to keep in mind. Now 7:12 when we consider what's going on here, we have to understand how these drugs 7:19 work and what it is that they do in a nutshell. Let's go back to the board. We 7:25 are talking here about powerful synthetic steroids. 7:32 That's why I don't want you to just talk about it as the abortion pill. These are powerful synthetic steroids. 7:40 They have multiple effects on the woman's body and health. 7:46 And we are talking about a two drug combo. 7:52 Now, I'm going to give you some names here that likely you have heard. Many 7:58 people know the names, don't know how to pronounce them. It's one of the most popular complicated medical words around 8:04 these days. Mythopristone 8:10 that's the drug number one and the drug number two very similar name 8:15 Misoprosttol also known as cytoch 8:23 but the key thing to understand is what do these things do? Mythopristone, 8:29 brothers and sisters, starves a baby 8:36 with a beating heart. Starves a baby with a beating heart 8:44 and with a head and with arms and with legs 8:50 starves the baby. How does it starves starve the baby? It blocks 8:57 progesterone. Simple as that. Progesterone, 9:03 key hormone of pregnancy, feeds the baby. Misfristone is a false progesterone. 9:10 It's like a a a wrong key for a lock that goes in but doesn't turn and it 9:16 keeps the right one from going in. That's how it works. Missrotol 9:21 induces labor, induces contractions 9:26 to eject the starved baby out of the body. That's 9:32 it. That's what you have to know about how these things work and that's what you have to explain to people. And if 9:39 you go to our website, children before birth.org, you'll see the pictures 9:45 of the babies. You'll see the beating heart. in fact of the babies at the ages 9:53 where these drugs kill them. You see the beating heart, you see the arms and 9:58 legs. You see the faces. We think about a pill. 10:05 I took a vitamin pill this morning. We take aspirin when we need to, right? 10:12 Pretty pretty uneventful experience, right? You have your meal, you take some 10:18 extra juice or water and you gulp down the pills. I mean, hopefully most of the 10:23 medicines you and I may need to take don't have, you know, many side effects, if any at all. I know I don't have any 10:29 side effects from taking uh some vitamins. And so that's why the word Why “abortion pill” is misleading 10:36 pill is misleading. People think, oh, it's just like he's like taking a pill. It's not just like taking a pill. 10:43 This is a process taking place over several days 10:49 and then can involve several weeks 10:54 cramping, bleeding, expelling 10:59 parts of the baby right there onto the bathroom floor. If you saw the movie Unplanned 11:06 by my friend Abby Johnson, you see a vivid portrayal of what actually happens 11:13 in these chemical abortions. Several days procedure with possibly several weeks of pain, cramping, bleeding, or 11:21 worse. Why has the abortion industry pressed to 11:28 make the procedure chemical rather than surgical? Understand this Abortion industry’s motives 11:34 surgical they have to deal 11:39 with the body parts. They being the staff of the abortion 11:46 clinic. They have to deal with the body parts. As a matter of fact, when you pull out the pieces of the baby one by 11:51 one in a surgical abortion, they have to put them on a collection tray and make sure all the pieces are there. Make sure there's two arms, two legs, head, torso, 12:00 etc. They have to see. Do you think that's easy? That's not easy at all. Chemical 12:06 abortion. If you take the chemical abortion pills, 12:13 you see the body parts. 12:21 You think that's a benefit for them? Of course it is. Oh, let's just give her some drugs, take care of it at home. 12:27 Then we don't have to deal with the aftermath. We don't have to deal with the blood. We don't have to deal with the little faces staring back at us. 12:35 And in our imagination, we hear, "Why did you kill me?" The other reason is recruitment. 12:42 First of all, it's easier for them, easier for the abortion workers. Secondly, recruitment of more abortion 12:48 workers. Because if you look at the complaints of the abortion industry over the decades, 12:55 what's one of the biggest complaints? We can't find workers. Well, of course you can't. Why would somebody go through the rigors of medical school and its 13:01 expenses in order to be known as a baby killer? In order to actually be a baby killer 13:08 with all the stigma that that carries. And you know what? For all the political and financial power of the abortion 13:14 industry and media influence they have, they have not succeeded ever in removing the stigma from abortion. You're going Health dangers & complications 13:21 to legalize prostitution. You're not going to remove the stigma from that either. It has a stigma and that stigma 13:29 will always remain. Now brothers and sisters 13:36 the method of chemical abortion and we've briefly referred to this already 13:41 is not safe for women. Our friends at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, and 13:46 you can find this study on our website, have using insurance records, 13:54 examined over 850,000 cases of people taking these powerful 14:01 synthetic steroids and have concluded that about one in 10 14:07 of these women, and you know, for medical statistics, that's a lot. For one in 10 of these women, there are some 14:13 serious uh after effects. I've mentioned some of them already. And we look at overall studies so far about chemical 14:20 abortion technique techniques, and there are four times more complications than 14:26 with the surgical abortion. Not only that, but some pro-life uh medical 14:32 experts looking into all this have concluded that they could be about as much as 22 times more dangerous than 14:40 previously thought. The more time goes on, the more dangerous we're going to 14:47 learn that these drugs are. Let's go back to the board here. Not only do we 14:52 see the dangers, perhaps 22 times Clinton, Obama & Biden push for chemical abortion 15:02 more dangerous than we thought. And 15:07 added to that, the Democrat administrations in Washington, Democrat 15:14 presidential administrations. When did this assault on human life in the womb 15:20 by chemical techniques uh take off? In the Clinton administration, I've been 15:25 fighting against these chemical abortion and alerting people about it since the mid90s. It was the Clinton 15:32 administration that got this off the ground and approved by the FDA. So 15:39 Clinton was in, you know, from uh 92 to 2000. He was in office 15:46 and this uh this circus here with the chemical abortion started around 94. Got 15:52 it approved before he left office. Now under Obama, this is the Democrats 15:58 are blood red. They got blood on their hands constantly. They hate the unborn. 16:05 They hate America. We look at the Obama administration. We 16:10 look at the Biden administration. What they both did in those administrations 16:16 was to relax safety 16:23 standards. What do I mean? Time after time after time with these 16:29 administrations, they relaxed the standards increasing the amount of uh time into 16:38 the pregnancy that these drugs could be used because originally it was only approved like for the first seven weeks 16:45 because you know the longer you go, the more developed that baby gets, the stronger that baby becomes. 16:52 Frankly, putting it just very simply, it's harder to kill the baby with these drugs the further along you go into 16:58 pregnancy. And therefore, you run the risk of actually having 17:04 a terribly deformed baby being born. They increased, however, the time into 17:11 the pregnancy in which these could be used and they decreased they increased the time 17:18 and decreased the involvement of the doctor, 17:24 decreasing the number of visits that you had to make to the doctor, ultimately even eliminating the requirement to see 17:31 a doctor at all. Well, then how do you assess the pregnancy accurately? And how do you make sure it's not an ectopic 17:37 pregnancy instead of a an interuterine pregnancy, in which case you're really putting the person in danger by giving 17:42 them a chemical abortion. And they also eliminated reporting 17:48 requirements uh for for what you want to hide the 17:53 damage that it's uh that it's doing. The the Democrat presidential administrations always act in favor of 18:00 the abortion industry. Keep that in mind. You'll notice that as a pattern going along. It never fails. 18:09 So, let's talk about, as you know, we at at 18:15 Priest for Life oversee some of the world's largest ministries of healing after abortion. And I want to talk to 18:22 you for a moment about how the grief that follows abortion 18:28 is accelerated and intensified when it comes to these chemical methods of Grief and denial after abortion 18:34 abortion. I want to help you understand why. If you've listened carefully to what I've said so far, you'll begin to 18:40 already understand what I'm about to say. The denial that a mom who has an 18:47 abortion is in after that procedure, thinking to herself that the problem is 18:54 solved, deciding to herself she's never going to talk about it again. And very 19:00 often people come to us for healing after 10 20 years or have after their abortion and they say I haven't said a 19:06 word about this to anybody not even my spouse if in fact their marriage survived or if they were able to get 19:12 married in the first place. We nevertheless see when it comes to chemical abortion that the denial that 19:19 some people live with for years, even decades, the denial that this really was a baby, the denial about how developed 19:27 the baby was, the denial that the act of abortion actually killed a baby, that 19:32 denial is broken much more quickly when it comes to chemical abortion. Why? 19:37 Because of what I already told you. In the surgical abortion, these moms, if except when it sometimes happened by 19:44 accident, these moms don't see what came out of them. They don't see the arms and 19:50 the legs and the faces of the aborted babies. At home, they do. 19:56 When that baby falls into the toilet, when that baby falls onto the shower Home becomes the abortion clinic 20:01 floor or the bathroom floor or the bedroom floor, they see 20:08 that that's a baby. The denial is broken that they have to pick up the pieces, 20:13 flush them down the toilet, as many of them do. You don't deny that that's a baby when you picked up two two feet and 20:22 two hands and a head. So they come to us quicker 20:28 for healing to seek peace, to seek forgiveness, to seek sanity. They come to us sooner. Our 20:34 healing programs like Rachel's Vineyard, our campaign of Silent No More, they 20:40 come to us more quickly. Not only that, let me go back to the board. It complicates the healing for the 20:47 following reason. Let me put a few words up here to help you understand this. 20:52 When you have a surgical abortion, that's a traumatic experience. Okay? Every abortion is. And one of the things 21:00 associated with the trauma is the place where it happened. And if you live in 21:05 the same town or vicinity of the abortion facility, all right? That was the place 21:12 of the trauma, right? The abortion facility. Let's say that the uh person who got the abortion lives over here. 21:20 And let's say they work over here. 21:28 Do you know that many of those that have come to us for healing after abortion will say that instead of driving to work 21:37 this way where they have to pass by the abortion facility, they will go this way 21:46 deliberately to avoid ever seeing that place again 21:52 because seeing that place can be a trigger. We see the reactions 21:58 after someone has an abortion basically fit the pattern of PTSD, post-traumatic The woman as her own abortionist 22:04 stress disorder, part of which involves negative reactions or triggering 22:12 by anything that reminds them of their traumatic experience. One of the things that'll remind them of it is the place 22:18 where it happened. They will avoid that place, even if it means sometimes going very far out of the way. Maybe they have 22:25 to get to the to the grocery store. 22:30 Instead of going this way, they'll go this way if they have to 22:36 avoid seeing that place. Okay. But with the chemical abortion, 22:42 they're given these drugs and if they take them at all, 22:50 they take them at home. And so now what problem do they have? 22:55 They have a very simple problem. Their home has also become 23:02 the abortion clinic. And how do you avoid your own home? 23:10 It's a sad and difficult problem. Secondly, if someone has a surgical 23:15 abortion, somebody whom they are very angry at afterwards, angry at, not appreciative of, but angry at is the 23:24 abortionist. They did the procedure. 23:31 That abortionist knew what he or she was doing, lied to them, often didn't treat them very well at 23:38 all. And part of the after effect of abortion is a great deal of anger 23:44 and resentment towards him or her. But now with the 23:50 chemical abortion, not only has the home become the abortion clinic, but the woman has 23:57 become herself the abortionist. 24:06 Boy, does that hurt one's self-image and self-esteem. 24:12 And what happens when the anger is displaced back onto yourself? 24:20 You don't have an abortionist that did the procedure. You realize you did it. Legislative & legal battles 24:30 We deal with it all the time. Rachel's Vineyard, Silent No More, healing programs 24:37 that we administer. Finally, the question that arises here, let me just 24:42 spend a few minutes. I'm just giving you some key talking points and key concepts to understand about chemical abortion. 24:48 The question of course arises in everyone's mind. What do we do? 24:54 I mean, we know with surgical abortion, the things we do, 25:00 we close the abortion facilities, try to put the abortionists out of business, go to the places where we know 25:08 the abortions are being performed at the hours when we know that we're performing them, and intervene right there on the 25:13 sidewalk and urge those moms and dads to change their mind. Or sometimes the grandparents are even more guilty if 25:20 they're pulling their daughters in there. And then we pass various laws to 25:26 uh impose regulations on the abortionist, on the clinic itself, on the hospital that might be doing them, 25:32 etc. But what do we do legally, legislatively 25:38 when it comes to chemical abortion? Well, the good news is that while 25:46 chemical abortion is easily available in about 22 states, 25:53 okay, easily accessible. There are another 28 states 26:02 that have already significant legal limits on the use of these 26:10 chemical abortion drugs. Now we can divide these in half because 14 states 26:17 have complete or nearly complete protection 26:24 of the babies from being killed in any form of abortion. So you've got 14 26:30 states where these babies are protected from being killed by these drugs. You've 26:35 got another 14 states that have re various restrictions on the 26:41 chemical abortions, for example, that only a physician 26:49 can administer them. I talked to you about the FDA under the Clinton, Obama, and 26:55 Biden administrations, how they cut corners and made it easier and easier to Pregnancy centers: reaching moms first 27:00 use these drugs. But some states have their own restrictions. Remember the states are are empowered to deal with ma 27:05 matters relating to medicine and health of their citizens. And so you've got various restrictions happening in 14 27:12 states. A handful of states even prohibit the mailing of these drugs. The 27:17 point being the b it's not like the battle is over just because they found a chemical 27:24 do-it-yourself way of abortion. No, the battle is not over. There's all kinds of laws that can be passed. And you know, I 27:31 was recently at the major pregnancy center conference of Carnet 27:38 and um of course chemical abortion was very much a topic of conversation as it 27:44 was some months earlier when I was at the the um pregnancy center conference 27:50 of Heartbeat International and some months before that at NIFLA, the National Institute of Family and Life 27:55 Advocates. They have a pregnancy center conference as well. And the conversation was the same. 28:02 Chemical abortion, what do we do? And you know what the bottom line conclusion was about all from all these pregnancy 28:08 center directors? Really, really it comes down to this. And this is where you can be helpful as well. Well, you 28:14 can be helpful with the legislation, too. Lobbying your state lawmakers, right? But, 28:20 oh, and we should also mention about something about the Supreme Court. I'll get back to that in a moment. 28:26 But the basic thing that we were talking about at the pregnancy center conferences was simply this. The way we 28:32 deal with these chemical killers circulating all around. 28:37 We reach the moms 28:45 first before the abortion industry does. 28:53 before those who are selling these drugs do. Under the Biden administration, they even gave permission to pharmacies to 28:59 start distributing these these lethal drugs. But if we reach the moms first, Supreme Court & FDA safety standards 29:06 with compassion, with alternatives, with counseling, with education about the 29:11 development of the baby, with education about the the harm that these drugs are going to do to their own health, we 29:17 reach the moms first. intervening, changing 29:23 their despair to hope. That's a key way, of course, to describe the overall mission of the 29:29 pro-life movement. Reach them first. smarter techniques online 29:37 with SEO and and and live chat and and apps and getting into uh uh getting onto 29:44 their phones and text messaging and just sometimes geo fencing and and targeting 29:50 of all different kinds and supporting all the pregnancy centers and all the 29:57 efforts that are being made to simply get the word out that if you're pregnant and in need, you know, something that 30:02 chemical abortion and surgical abortion all have in common. You have a scared pregnant mom 30:09 whose despair, not whose freedom of choice, but whose despair is leading her 30:14 to seek an abortion, whether chemically or surgically. We've got to reach her first 30:21 let her know that we know her pain and counsel her and give her the strength to do what's right. That's 30:27 ultimately the solution. I mention here the Supreme Court because there is a case in front of the Supreme Court. It 30:34 was brought to the Supreme Court uh recently and um they they they 30:40 dismissed the case but not because they they ruled what the case is about is restore the stricter guidelines, the 30:48 stricter safety mechanisms from of the FDA. Remember I mentioned how those administrations, those Democrat 30:54 presidents uh relaxed the safety standards. So the Supreme Court has been approached to say look um an alliance of 31:02 doctors came to them and said look we we we don't believe that this is helping women and we in fact we know it's 31:07 hurting women restore the safety standards because they were changed not based on medical evidence but based on 31:14 politics. So the court didn't hear that they heard the they they took the case 31:19 but they uh ended up dismissing it for lack of standing. However that doesn't 31:24 mean that the issue is resolved. They didn't say no to re to restoring the 31:30 standards. They did make it clear that there are others, some states are pursuing this case now who do have 31:37 standing before the court. And so we can see more activity at the Supreme Court 31:42 coming up uh on this uh chemical abortion u process. We also have uh the 31:50 HHS, Department of HHS under RFK Jr. uh and the whole make America healthy 31:56 again movement looking into the numerous health negative effects of Healing testimonies & resources 32:03 chemical abortion. They are looking into that. We know that that's the case. And if they're looking into it, well then 32:09 they can end up doing in the end if they follow the evidence honestly, which I 32:14 think they will, revoking the approval of these powerful synthetic steroids that literally starve 32:22 a baby and then eject the baby from what should be the safest place in the world, 32:29 a mother's womb. And so brothers and sisters, I hope that these reflections have given you a few talking points and 32:37 help you understand some of the truths about the chemical abortion and I hope 32:42 they awaken in you a desire to learn more about it. You can look at that 32:48 entire study that the ethics and public policy center did. You can look at the 32:53 testimonies of those who are silent no more abortionestimonies.com 32:59 and find there the uh terrible terrible aftere effects of this um this chemical 33:07 procedure. You can look also uh at life afterabortion.com. 33:13 That's our overall website for understanding the impact abortion has. 33:19 and you'll see more information on what we've talked about today. I want to conclude in prayer and uh to do that, Closing prayer to end abortion 33:26 you know, we have ongoing prayer campaigns that you can find at prayer campaign.org. 33:32 But one of those prayer campaigns ongoing all the time is simply the daily prayer to end abortion. And when we see 33:39 the the indescribable horror uh of this 33:45 particular way of killing, um it should motivate us to to want to do even more 33:50 each day to end this this holocaust. So let's pray together this prayer I wrote to end abortion. Lord God, I thank you 33:58 today for the gift of my life and for the lives of all my brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that 34:04 destroys more life than abortion. Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the resurrection of your son. I am ready 34:11 to do my part in ending abortion. Today I commit myself never to be silent, never to be passive, never to be 34:19 forgetful of the unborn. I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement 34:25 and never to stop defending life until all my brothers and sisters are protected and our nation once again 34:31 becomes a nation with liberty and justice. Not just for some, but for all 34:37 through Christ our Lord. Amen. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. prayer 34:43 campaign.org you can find that prayer and you can order these prayer cards. 34:48 Thanks friends for listening.
